Today’s special show is with Jeffrey Smith, Director of the Institute for Responsible Technology and one of the world’s leading authorities on the health effects of genetically engineered foods. Jeffrey is a prominent speaker and author; he was recently featured on Dr. Oz and his non-GMO shopping guide is recommended by O, the Oprah Magazine, Fox News, and CBS News.
Genetically engineered foods are rampant. Although there are just nine primary GE food crops, their derivatives are estimated to be present in over 70 percent of supermarket foods.
But due to non-existent labeling laws, Americans do not know which foods contain GMOs!
In America, food-substances like GMOs are safe until proven unsafe. That is wrong.
Monsanto and other interested parties have spent hundreds of millions to keep us from knowing which foods contain genetically engineered substances. After working the majority of my adult life as a business consultant, it is painfully obvious that corporations wouldn’t be spending millions on a cover-up unless they had something to hide…
Why Should I Care? Aren’t GMO’s Safe?
In a word, no.
For example, when Bt corn was approved, both Monsanto and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assured everyone that the Bt toxin produced by these plants would hurt only insects.
So they’re basically saying: “When a bug eats our corn, its stomach explodes and it immediately drops dead… But it’s deliciously safe for humans!”
Safe like Agent Orange, Recombinant Bovine Somatotropin, PCBs, and DDT? Thanks Monsanto.
In fact, government-sponsored research in Italy showed a wide range of problematic responses in mice fed Bt corn, including multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, and multiple forms of cancer.
Still not convinced that GMOs are freaky? Chew on this:
Children of workers on soybean farms sprayed with Roundup have shown a 70-fold increase in birth defects. Laboratory animals fed Roundup Ready soy develop serious reproductive disorders, including sperm damage, uterine damage, and testicular changes. In one study, half of the baby rats whose mothers were fed GE soy died within three weeks. The babies were also smaller and infertile. In a study yet to be published, rat testicles turned blue, and by the third generation, the rats were sterile. Some even had hair growing inside their mouths!
I like my testicles just the way they are, thank you very much.
It is astounding that we still do not have the right to know what is in our food. We’re trying to change that. California Proposition 37, which requires the labeling of genetically engineered foods, is just the first step.
